Saudi Arabia became the first team to be eliminated in the World Cup finals after they suffered a 1-0 loss to the "Indomitable Lions" Cameroon in Group Eon Thursday.
Samuel Eto'o hit the winner at the 65th minute as he broke awayfrom two Saudi defenders to flick the ball past keeper Mohammed AlDeayea.
Topping Group H were Germany with four points, who thrashed Saudi Arabia 8-0 last Saturday and drew with Ireland 1-1 on Wednesday. Cameroon also have four and Ireland take two.
Saudi Arabia were lucky enough to hang on to a 0-0 draw in the first half with two goals from the African champions nullified foroffside.
Cameroon, who scraped a 1-1 draw with Ireland in their first game, threatened the Saudi goal through striker Patrick Mboma, whohad one drive ruled out for offside at the 12th minute.
Two minutes before the interval, Lauren also had a goal disallowed for offside.
Saudi Arabian, who advanced into the second round in the 1994 finals, played without their captain and top striker Sami Al Jaber,who injured his right knee in a collision with Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Haann during the match against Germany.
Cameroon midfielder Marc-Vivien Foe said his side would not letthe thought of early elimination prey on their minds.
"We tried to calm things down in the second half. It was more difficult than we had expected - but we still have a very good chance to go through with a win over Germany," said the Lyon midfielder.
Saudi Arabia put on a brave face after the game.
"I think we showed our true face today," said captain and goalkeeper al-Deayea. "I am satisfied with the level of our performance. We had some chances but we couldn't convert them. There were a lot of young players in the side but the future is bright."
