New Zealand Speaker Meets NPC Vice-Chairwoman of China
Jonathan Hunt, speaker of the New Zealand House of Representatives, Thursday met with Peng Peiyun, vice-chairwoman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC) and president of the Red Cross Society of China.

They had a cordial and friendly conversation.
Hunt spoke highly of the rapid growth of New Zealand-China relations in the past 30 years. Since the two countries established diplomatic ties in 1972, he said, the New Zealand Parliament and China's NPC have conducted frequent contacts and the non-government organizations, including the Red Cross societies of the two countries, have also made an effective exchange of visits. All this, he added, has greatly promoted the bilateral relations of the two countries.
Peng agreed to Hunt's comments on Sino-New Zealand relations. She said China's NPC is looking forward to receiving Speaker Hunt. Hunt who made his first visit to china more than 10 years ago, said he would like to visit China again.
Peng is leading a delegation of the Red Cross Society of China in her capacity of president of the society. On Wednesday, She met with Mrs Patricia O'Brien, national president of the New Zealand Red Cross. Together, they presided over talks between the Red Cross organizations of the two countries. During the talks, the two sides expressed their desire to strengthen their friendly exchange and cooperation.
The delegation of the Red Cross Society of China began its visit to New Zealand on Sunday at the invitation of the New Zealand Red Cross. It will conclude the visit and leave for home Friday.
