Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has told the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) that the ban on separatist Tamil Tiger rebels will be lifted ten days before the proposed peace talks commence in Thailand between the government and the rebels, The Island newspaper said on Thursday.
The TNA delegation that met Wickremesinghe on Wednesday held an hour-long discussion with him during which he briefed them about his recent European tour and the outcome of the talks he had with the European leaders on the current peace effort.
The TNA delegation pointed out that some sections of the armed forces were undermining the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement signed between the government and Tamil rebels in February. Wickremesinghe undertook to discuss the issue with his ministers and sort out the matter when he returns from his visit to neighboring India next week.
