Brazilian striker Rivaldo has been fined 11,500 Swiss francs for faking injury in the June 3 World Cup match between Brazil and Turkey, FIFA said in a statement Wednesday in Seoul.

The FIFA Disciplinary Committee made the decision after looking into the game during which the 30-year-old star fell to the ground at the corner clutching his face in agony after being hit in the leg by a ball Turkish defender Hakan Unsal deliberately kicked at him.

South Korean referee Kim Young-yoo immediately showed Unsal a red card.

Rivaldo admitted after the match that he had exaggerated his injury.

Of the 11,500 Swiss francs, there was a basic fine of 10,000 Swiss francs with 1,500 Swiss francs for expenses.
