61 Swimmers to Compete for FINA Marathon Swimming in Qiongzhou Strait

"Shenli Cup" FINA Marathon Swimming World Cup 2002 will be held in China's Qiongzhou Strait on June 5. Some 61 male and female swimmers from 14 countries will take their part in the event.

61 Swimmers to Compete for FINA Marathon Swimming in Qiongzhou Strait
"Shenli Cup" FINA Marathon Swimming World Cup 2002 will be held in China's Qiongzhou Strait on June 5. Some 61 male and female swimmers from 14 countries will take their part in the event.

According to report, the total distance of the match is 25 km, setting out from Anbaisha Bay of Xuwen Sea of Guangdong province, the match ends at the holiday beach of Haikou city.

It is the first time that FINA holds marathon in a Strait, and also the first time for Asia to organize the game, meanwhile, it is the largest one in scale with highest prize award.

China has 28 male and female participants, the eldest is 52 and the youngest 14, of whom 8 ever attended previous two years' swimming contest across Qiongzhou Strait

Among the 33 foreign athletes, 14 are top 10 marathon winners. Russia, Germany, Egypt and other countries have sent world-class swimmers to compete in the match.

FINA approved 11 countries and regions for 13 matches this year, Qiongzhou Strait is the fifth leg. Argentina, UAE and Brazil have held the four matches. China's Hong Kong will hold the sixth. Canada, Italy, Egypt will carry out the rest.
