As expected, star defender Fan Zhiyi of Dundee, returned to the team for China's first-ever World Cup game.
China is the record fifth team Milutinovic has led to the World Cup finals. He took Costa Rica to the second round of the competition in Italy, 1990.
The Costa Ricans are returning to World Cup play for the first time in 12 years. The team's coach Alexandre Guimarae is now the head coach.
Guimarae will deploy an offensive 3-5-2 formation with star forward Paulo Wanchope up front.
