A delegation of Chinese mainland media professionals said it is impressed by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR)'s liberal environment ideal for business development.
A HKSAR Chinese newspaper, the Ta Kung Pao, reported Monday that rounding up a week of media visits and interviews in Hong Kong on June 2, the delegates made the remarks to Hong Kong deputies to the National People's Congress (NPC) and members of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).
In a seminar with the NPC deputies and the CPPCC members, the delegates reportedly said they generally feel that Hong Kong continues to be an open society and attract businesses to set up their bases here.
A Hong Kong deputy to the NPC, Tsang Hin Chi, told the delegates that Hong Kong is by and large a stable and prosperous society, while the HKSAR Chief Executive Tung Chee Hwa has been running Hong Kong in strict accordance with the Basic Law with marvelous achievements.
Robin Chan, chairman of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce here echoed Tsang's view that Hong Kong is still the most liberal economic system and secure place in the world.
Cheng Yiu Tong, another Hong Kong deputy to the NPC, said although Hong Kong earlier suffered from problems of a bubble economy left behind by the colonial rule under the British, the Hong Kong SAR has always gained support from the Central government in times of difficulty.
The delegation of media professionals was arranged by the Chinese Journalists' Association and has visited the HKSAR Legislative Council, various government bureaus and departments, the American Chamber of Commerce, the Trade Development Council and the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong.
