Saudi Coach Pledges Better Performance in Following World Cup Matches

Saudi national soccer team head coach Al Johar Nasser pledged that his squad, who suffered a 0-8 humiliation in their World Cup opener against Germany in Sapporo, Japan on Saturday evening, will have better performance in the following matches.

Saudi national soccer team head coach Al Johar Nasser pledged that his squad, who suffered a 0-8 humiliation in their World Cup opener against Germany in Sapporo, Japan on Saturday evening, will have better performance in the following matches.

"I am very disappointed (over the result), and I am responsible for it," AL Johar Nasser told reporters after the game, adding, " Saudi Arabia still have the chance to qualify for the second round as we still have two matches to play."

"We promise to the Saudi Arabian people and the soccer fans that we will perform better in the following matches, "he added.

Saudi Arabia, one of the Asian soccer powerhouses, will then face Ireland and Cameroon in group E of the Korea-Japan 2002 World Cup finals' first round.
