Costa Rica Seeks to Counter China's Speed
Costa Rica's national soccer team Colombian coach Jorge Luis Pinto said his team will not be able to contend with China in terms of speed, which is a quality of East Asians, but in terms "of football".
Costa Rica's national soccer team Colombian coach Jorge Luis Pinto said his team will not be able to contend with China in terms of speed, which is a quality of East Asians, but in terms "of football".
Pinto told local daily the main risk for the Costa Ricans is to allow the Chinese to exert a pressure that prevents the Central Americans to develop their qualities.
He asserted that in order to neutralize this danger, Costa Rica will have to close spaces, because the Asian team finds it difficult to play in reduced spaces, as "the Turkish would".
China and Costa Rica will play next Tuesday at the South Korean city of Kwangju in their Korea-Japan 2002 World Cup Group C debut. This group is completed with Brazil and Turkey.
The coach also commented the World Cup matches will be played at an "infernal" pace, because they will be played at night and in the afternoon, so the teams "will fly."
