Jiang Zemin to Attend Two Summit Meetings

Chinese President Jiang Zemin will attend the summit meeting of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia held in Alma-ata and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit held in St. Petersburg and pay state visits to Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania and Iceland from June 3rd to 18th.

Chinese President Jiang Zemin will attend the summit meeting of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia held in Alma-ata and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit held in St. Petersburg and pay state visits to Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania and Iceland from June 3rd to 18th.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan made the announcement Friday.

Kong said Jiang makes the visits at the invitation of PresidentNursultan Abishevich Nazarbayev of the Republic of Kazakhstan, President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin of the Russian Federation, President Vaira Vike-Freiberga of the Republic of Latvia, President Arnold Ruutel of the Republic of Estonia, President Valdas Adamkus of the Republic of Lithuania, and President Olafur Ragnar Grimsson of the Republic of Iceland.

Kong said that the visits are aimed to push forward the bilateral and multi-lateral cooperation between China and the relevant countries and exchange views in an in-depth way on regional and world peace and development.
