Sri Lanka's Vesak Day Murder Suspects Arrested
An underworld gang responsible for eliminating another underworld gang in Sri Lanka on Buddhist religous Vesak Day was arrested Thursday by Sri Lankan police, according to media reports Friday.

On the Vesak Day which fell on last Sunday, Kaduwela Wasantha,one of the most wanted underworld gangsters, and six other membersof the gang who were on their way to the Navagama police station at the suburb of capital Colombo to mark their presence on a courtorder, were killed by another gang wearing military type uniforms.
Police investigators identified the other gang as that of notorious criminal Karate Dhammika and arrested him and nine others after a raid on a hotel at Aluthgama where they were in hiding. Three more suspects including a special task force member are absconding.
The police team has also recovered a large haul of arms and ammunition from the suspects together with military uniforms, and a van reportedly used by the killers and a false number plate of amilitary vehicle used by the gangsters.
The suspects were produced in court and remanded while police are conducting further investigations.
