China coach Bora Milutinovic could miss his team's opening World Cup match against Costa Rica if he fails to recover from a bout of heavy flu, the BBC said Wednesday.

The Yugoslav coach is concerned that he could develop full-blown pneumonia - and is receiving regular treatment.

"I'm now receiving infusions, but it is just not clearing up," said Milutinovic.

If the situation does not improve the veteran coach could miss the twice-daily training sessions that he conducts. And his absence at China's first-ever World Cup fixture would be a massive blow to the team.
