Chinese Can Play Good Football: Schlappner
Former head coach of the Chinese national football team, Klaus Schlappner, said Tuesday in Tehran that he has high hopes on Chinese team's performance in the upcoming South Korea-Japan World Cup.
Former head coach of the Chinese national football team, Klaus Schlappner, said Tuesday in Tehran that he has high hopes on Chinese team's performance in the upcoming South Korea-Japan World Cup.
Schlappner said to go to the World Cup is the highlight for China, Chinese people andfootball fans.
Current technical director of Iran's Peykan Football Club, Schlappner urged the fledgling Chinese squad to learn the atmosphere in the tournament and"show the world the Chinese power."
Speaking frankly that it is "very hard" for Chinese team to come to the next round of the match, the German coach noted, however, that this is not the point, adding he hopes China can do well in all its games. China is lumped together with Brazil, Turkey and Costa Rica in Group C.
For the match with Costa-Rica, Schlappner hoped China could geta point with a draw. "Maybe a win,"the veteran coach anticipated.
"A draw with the Turkish team is a victory for China." Schlappner added.
The clash with Brazilians may present the Chinese players opportunity to show their power and fighting spirit, Schlappner said of his expectation on his former squad.
On Asian teams'fate in the tournament, Schlappner said he would be happy to see two of them survive the group match and go to the last 16.
"Since South Korea and Japan play at home, they may be in better positions than China and Saudi Arabia,"Schlappner said.
