Beijing High-tech Expo Sees Agreements of US$7.35bn Inked
The Fifth China Beijing International High-tech Expo concluded Tuesday afternoon, with agreements on 397 projects valued at 7.35 billion U.S. dollars signed during the six-day event. Of these projects, 337 contracts will need an injection of investment totaling 7.12 billion U.S. dollars in contractual value, mostly destined for new and high-tech projects, while the remaining 60 involve a deal totaling 230 million U.S. dollars.

Of these projects, 337 contracts will need an injection of investment totaling 7.12 billion U.S. dollars in contractual value, mostly destined for new and high-tech projects, while the remaining 60 involve a deal totaling 230 million U.S. dollars.
A number of transnational companies on the Fortune 500 list are involved in these projects, including Du Pont of the U.S., Electricite de France and Hyundai of the Republic of Korea.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Minister of Science and Technology Xu Guanhua said that the exposition would produce deep and far-reaching influence on the promotion of international cooperation in science and technology and new and high-tech projects.
He said that the Chinese government will provide more support for Sino-foreign exchanges in the new and high-tech field, and that the sixth session of the exposition will be held from May 23 to 28, 2003.
More than 600,000 people participated in the activities of this year's exposition, which included exhibitions, seminars and trade fairs.
Among the participants, more than 5,000 were from overseas, including officials of international organizations and CEOs of leading transnational companies.
Jia Qinglin, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and also secretary of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the CPC, and State Councilor Wu Yi attended the closing ceremony.
