Pakistan
on Tuesday successful test fired its short range indigenously developed surface to surface missile Haft-II (ABDALI).
According to a press release from the Inter Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR), this was the third missile test fired since May 25 when Pakistan announced its success in test fire of a medium range surface to surface ballistic missile Hatf-V(Ghauri).
Hatf-V (Ghauri) is an indigenously developed ballistic missile upto a range of 1,500 kilometers.
Pakistan on May 26 carried out successful test fire of its newly developed short range surface to surface ballistic missile Hataf-III (Ghaznavi)
"This was the first test of the Ghaznavi missile which is capable of carrying warheads accurately upto a range of 290 Kilometer," the ISPR press release said.
The test Tuesday was the first test of the ABDALI missile and this system is capable of carrying warheads accurately upto a range of 180 kilometers.
The flight data collected confirmed the missiles' accuracy and all other design parameters were successfully validated, the military sources said.
After the May 25 test fire, the ISPR in a press release said, "It may be recalled that Pakistan had not tested a major missile system since April 1999 and had demonstrated utmost restraint overthe past three years. Our policy will continue to be governed by restraint and responsibility and such tests will only be conductedwhen technically needed."
The press release added, "The series of tests are a part of theresearch and development of Pakistan's indigenous missile program, which is an essential element of Pakistan's policy of maintaining minimum deterrence in the interest of our security. It demonstrates Pakistan's determination to defend itself, strengthennational security and consolidate strategic balance in the region."
While announcing the test fire of missiles on May 24, an official spokesman said, "These are routine tests and are conducted as part of technical requirements."
He said that Pakistan had informed its neighbors including
India
of the prospective tests, emphasizing that these were in no way related to the current situation existing between Pakistan andIndia.
