Clinton Pays 380,000 Yuan in Taxes to Shenzhen

Former U.S. President Bill Clinton has paid 380,000 yuan (about 46,000 U.S. dollars) in taxes for the 150,000 U.S. dollars he received for making a speech in this south China special economic zone, according to the Shenzhen taxation bureau.

Former U.S. President Bill Clinton has paid 380,000 yuan (about 46,000 U.S. dollars) in taxes for the 150,000 U.S. dollars he received for making a speech in Shenzhen, a south China special economic zone, according to local taxation bureau.

The bureau said it received the tax payment Monday.

Clinton was invited by the Shenzhen Jingji Real Estate Company to deliver a 30-minute speech on China-U.S. relations on May 23.

The event cost the company a total of 250,000 U.S. dollars, of which 150,000 dollars was Clinton's private earnings.

According to the Chinese law, the former president had to pay income tax to Shenzhen.

In recent years, this booming financial center in Guangdong Province has hosted many activities for international celebrities.

The highest sum of tax payment to the city's tax bureau was from American golf star Tiger Woods.
