Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf said in Islamabad Monday evening that Pakistan wants peace in the region and will never initiate war with India.
While addressing the nation over radio and TV networks, Musharraf also made it clear :"If war is imposed on us, we will give a befitting reply to the enemy."
He said the allegations "with aggressive overtones" by the Indian leadership have increased the heat of war and created war hysteria in the region.
He said the armed forces of Pakistan are fully prepared to defend the country and shed their last drop of blood for the nation.
Musharraf assured the world community that Pakistan is doing nothing across the Line of Control, adding that a freedom struggle is going on in India held Kashmir and if there is any reaction to "Indian atrocities", Pakistan cannot be held responsible for that.
The president urged the international community to ask India to move towards the normalization of relations which is of mutual benefit to the two countries.
He said Pakistan had strongly condemned the acts of terrorism on 13th of December on the Indian Parliament and 14th of May in a Jammu garrison leading to the killings of several civilians. He said Pakistan had expressed grief over these killings, adding whoever was involved in these terrorist acts also wanted to destabilize Pakistan.
The President said Pakistan is passing through a very sensitive period and standing at a very difficult cross road in the history. He stressed that in this situation, national unity is of utmost importance.
Musharraf categorically assured the politicians that genuine democracy would be brought in Pakistan in October this year.
He said elections will be held between 7th and 11th October this year and it is his promise to the nation that these elections will be fair and transparent and foreign observers will be welcomed to monitor it.
