Senior CPC Official Meets European Guests

Wei Jianxing, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC), met Monday with a delegation of the Group of the European People's Party and European Democrats of the European Parliament led by its vice-president Ilkka Suominen.

Wei, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureauof the CPC Central Committee, said that Sino-European relations have maintained a strong momentum with increasing visits by leaders and the improvement of political dialogue and economic cooperation.

China and Europe have made favorable contributions to boosting multipolarization and maintaining world peace and stability through enhancing exchanges and cooperation on many important international issues, Wei said.

China attaches great importance to Sino-European relations, andis glad to see the European Union playing an increasingly important role in the international community.

He said China is glad to see that European Union and its memberstates value their relations with China, that the majority of the parties of the European Parliament are strengthening their friendly ties with China, and that the European People's Party hasplayed an important role in improving Sino-European relations.

The CPC is willing to expand cooperation with the European People's Party under the principle of mutual respect, Wei Jianxing said.

Suominen said that he has witnessed China's fast development through his frequent visits.

He said that he will continue to pay close attention to China'sdevelopment since China plays an important role in maintaining stability and peace in Asia and the world.

He said the European Union and its member states attach great importance to the development of Sino-European ties, and are satisfied with the smooth cooperation between the two sides.

At the end of the meeting, Suominen expressed his good wishes for the success of the 16th National Congress of the CPC.
