Middle School Student to Guard Chinese Flag at World Cup Game

"With the start of the World Cup finals approaching, I become more and more excited and I hate to wait any more and wish to go to South Korea right now," middle school student Ma Lin said while checking the wall calendar.
An overjoyed Ma jumped for the good news two days ago that he had been chosen as one of the 21 flag guards for China's national soccer team at the coming World Cup finals.
The lanky soccer fan, who claims to be able to play at any position on the field except for goalkeeper, is the only one to be picked up from this northeastern Chinese city.
Ma passed cultural examinations to be picked out of a field of Shenyang's 4,000 candidates. He then qualified through soccer technique tests to qualify for the semi-final as one of 40. His good mastery of English language helped him into the 12-strong final, which he won in April.
The 21 flag guards shall be divided into three groups of seven, each for one game involving the China team. Ma has been assigned to be among the seven for China's opening Group C game against Costa Rica on June 4 in Sogwipo, South Korea.
"I'm to represent all of Shenyang's middle school students at the World Cup and I'll try to do a good job out there," he said.
