Shanghai Cooperation Organization to Hold 1st Trade Ministers Meeting

The first ministerial meeting on trade and economic cooperation among members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) will be held in Shanghai on May 28 and 29.

The first ministerial meeting on trade and economic cooperation among members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) will be held in Shanghai on May 28 and 29.

Officials from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (MOFTEC) said ministers or deputy ministers in charge of trade and economic affairs from China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan will participate.

The ministers will study regional economic cooperation and makeproposals on trade and investment convenience.

In addition, the ministers will discuss exchanges concerning trade and investment laws, and a framework of multilateral trade and economic cooperation.

"It is time to begin economic and trade cooperation among the SCO members," said an official with MOFTEC. "Such cooperation willhelp consolidate the material basis of the SCO and contribute to regional stability and the economic development of the member countries."
