China Sets Up Disaster Relief System

Civil affairs departments across China have set up a network of disaster relief centers to raise funds for those in need.

Civil affairs departments across China have set up a network of disaster relief centers to raise funds for those in need.

To date, 237 donation centers have been set up in cities nationwide, with the majority in central and eastern China. Citiesincluding Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin and Shenyang have built permanent donation centers run by neighborhood committees.

In the past few years, these centers have raised a total of 11.6 billion yuan (14 billion U.S. dollars) and helped 320 million people afflicted by a range of natural disasters.
