Indian, Pakistani Troops Exchange Fire

Pakistani army Friday resorted toheavy artillery fire on the Siachen glacier and exchanged small arms fire with Indian troops in the Kargil area in Jamuu and Kashmir, military officials said.

Pakistani army Friday resorted toheavy artillery fire on the Siachen glacier and exchanged small arms fire with Indian troops in the Kargil area in Jamuu and Kashmir, military officials said.

Terming the situation on the Indo-Pak border as continuing to be serious, officials said the spate of shelling across the Line of Control (LoC) and International border in Jammu and Kashmir wason the rise.

In the week between May 17 to 24, the LoC and International Border in Jammu and Kashmir witnessed an unprecedented 42 incidents of mortar duels, according to the Press Trust of India.

Indian troops killed as many as 70 to 100 Pakistani soldiers and destroyed 63 bunkers.

Officials said that the 42 incidents were almost the double of figures for the entire last year.
