China Develops Robots for Cell Work
China has developed and begun to produce robots which can operate to within a nanometer -- one millionth of a millimeter -- for operations on cells and chromosomes.
China has developed and begun to produce robots which can operate to within a nanometer -- one millionth of a millimeter -- for operations on cells and chromosomes.
The robot was developed by Harbin Industrial University in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, it was revealed at the Beijing International High-Tech Exposition in Beijing.
Qu Dongsheng, executive manager of Harbin Boshi Precision Test and Control Company, said that China had mastered the advanced technology used in the development of robot, medical and space researches.
Another model of the robot, developed for molecular biological operations by scientists with the Nankai University in Tianjin, isbeing used by scientists in research labs.
The Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences has used the robots in the chromosome incision of plant cells. Gene experts useit for trans-genetic experiments.
But China's "nano-robot" technology still lags behind developedcountries in the manufacturing and application fields, said Chen Ken, an expert in Tsinghua University.
