Lee Kuan Yew, senior minister of Singapore, highly praised Chinese young generation for their ambition and desire to catch up with the world and predicted that China would keep pace with the United States in 2050, according to a report by Lianhe Zobao.

Lee made these remarks Wednesday at the annual seminar "Future of the Asia", organized by Japan's Nihon Keizai economic newspaper.

"The Chinese younger generation is learning English and knowledge on the Internet. They want to catch up with the world. They make their efforts to learn from the western countries and the American managing mode. Twenty years later, the world will see an entirely different generation of Chinese youth.

"The United States must prepare to accept the fact that China's GDP will have been greatly improved by 2050", the senior minister pointed out.
