Somali Former Military Men Restore Loyalty to Interim Govt.

A group of Somali former militaryofficials have declared changing their mind after having been trained and armed by Ethiopia in its attempts to destabilize the Transitional National Government (TNG) of Mogadishu.

At a press conference held in Lafweyn Hotel of north Mogadishu,the 38 former military officials stated that they have restored their loyalty to the TNG.

Introducing himself as a major in the 38th battalion of the fifth brigade of the 21st division of Somalia's military main body,Major Abdurahman Hajji Mursal best known as Major Birreh spoke about what had happened, and their training in Ethiopia.

The major said Ethiopia gave them nothing other than the expenditures of the hotels and food, and some money which was saidto be aimed at shopping.

"But they promised us weapons and ammunition and when at last these consignments arrived the warlords Muse Sudi and Engineer Addow did not give us anything," he said.

Major Birreh said now they are engaged in talks with some of the government officials in Mogadishu.
