Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will leave Saturday for London and Brussels on an official visit, the state-run Daily News said on Friday.
Wickremesinghe will meet British Prime Minister Tony Blair in London and European Union (EU) President Romano Prodi and the EU Commissioner Chris Patten in Brussels.
During his visit a new pact between the European Union and Sri Lanka will be signed. Wickremesinghe will deliver a lecture to the EU Parliament on the subject of "Peace and Capacity Building in Developing Countries - the Role of the EU". He will also address the Conference of Presidents of the EU Parliament.
Officials said that Wickremesinghe will seek support from Britain and EU for the current Norwegian-brokered peace process in the country.
The government and separatist Tamil Tiger rebels are expected to hold peace talks in Thailand in June in a bid to end the nearly two decade ethnic conflict in the country which has claimed over 64,000 lives since 1983.
