US Submits Final World Cup Roster to FIFA
The United States submitted its official roster for the 2002 World Cup to the FIFA General Secretariat in Switzerland on Wednesday without any significant change to the team announced by head coach Bruce Arena one month ago.
The United States submitted its official roster for the 2002 World Cup to the FIFA General Secretariat in Switzerland on Wednesday without any significant change to the team announced by head coach Bruce Arena one month ago.
Arena's selections are highlighted by the inclusion of seven players who will be representing the United States in their third World Cup, including captain Claudio Reyna of Sunderland in England, all-time U.S. World Cup qualifying goal scoring leader Earnie Stewart, second all-time leading scorer Joe-Max Moore of Everton in England and all-time U.S. appearance leader Cobi Jones.
Of the team's 23 players, 12 currently play professionally in Europe and 11 play in the domestic Major League Soccer.
Steve Cherundolo was chosen by Arena to replace injured midfielder Chris Armas, the only change to the team roster announced on April 22.

Defenders: Jeff Agoos (1998), Gregg Berhalter, Steve Cherundolo, Frankie Hejduk (1998), Carlos Llamosa, Pablo Mastroeni, Eddie Pope (1998), David Regis (1998) and Tony Sanneh.
Midfielders: DaMarcus Beasley, Landon Donovan, Cobi Jones (1994, 1998), Eddie Lewis, John O'Brien, Claudio Reyna (1994, 1998) and Earnie Stewart (1994, 1998).
Forwards: Clint Mathis, Brian McBride (1998), Joe-Max Moore ( 1994, 1998) and Josh Wolff.
