Military training continued on Wednesday for senior Iraqi officials, cabinet ministers and members of the ruling Arab Baath Socialist Party to confront any possible attacks from the United States, the state-run Iraq TV reported.

The participants, including Vice President Taha Yassin Ramadan and Deputy Prime Minister Tareq Aziz, Wednesday spent two hours on the training program, and the first hour for listening to lectures which featured on the use of light weapons, how to disassemble and assemble them, as well as some combat techniques, the report said.

During the second hour, the officials watched a live "fighting" between Iraqi fighters and invading "enemy" soldiers in residentialareas. The "fighting" ended with victory for Iraqi fighters and the "invaders" being captured.

The military training, which began some two weeks ago, was organized by the Defense Ministry, the report said.

According to the directives of President Saddam Hussein, senior Iraqi officials have spent time familiarizing the use of machine guns, combat techniques and learning military theories, according to official Iraqi media reports.

Many Iraqi officials have a military background. For example, the oil minister also has the rank of a general.

U.S. President George W. Bush has branded Iraq as part of an "axis of evil" and strongly warned that Iraq may become the next target of the U.S.-led war on terror.
