U.S. President George W. Bush stressed the need to fight global terrorism when he set out on a week-long trip to Europe on Wednesday.
"As an alliance, we must continue to fight against global terror. We've got to be tough," Bush said before leaving the White House.
Bush warned that there is still danger for European countries such as Germany, France, Russia and Italy despite "some initial successes" in fighting terrorism.
"I will remind our friends that this war is far from over," he noted.
The U.S. president said that he will use his European trip to reaffirm U.S. commitment to trade, urging the U.S. Senate to granthim trade promotion authority so that he can have a free hand to negotiate trade arrangements with other countries.
Bush's trip will take him to Germany, Russia, France and Italy.The centerpiece of the trip is to sign a treaty with Moscow on thereduction of long-range nuclear weapons.
Bush and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, are also expected to discuss how to deal with tactical nuclear weapons stored by the two countries.
