100,000 Protest Bush's Visit in Berlin
Tens of thousands of people marched on Tuesday in downtown Berlin, denouncing Washington's military policies on the eve of U.S. President George W. Bush's visit to Berlin.
Tens of thousands of people marched on Tuesday in downtown Berlin, denouncing Washington's military policies on the eve of U.S. President George W. Bush's visit to Berlin.
According to the organizers, 100,000 participated in the peaceful protest, while police put the number at 17,000. The marchwas organized by the "Axis of Peace," which consists of 240 groupsand organizations.
The protesters included politicians, anti-globalization activists, Palestinians and trade unionists, who held posters and banners saying that "we don't want your war, Mr. President," and "we want no war."
More demonstrations and protests are expected during Bush's visit here on Wednesday and Thursday, local press reports said.
German authorities have gathered more than 10,000 police officers for Bush's security, the largest such protection since the end of Second War II.
