Egyptian President, Omani Sultan Mull Mideast Situation

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on Tuesday held talks with Omani Sultan Qabus Bin Said on the volatile Mideast situation at Egypt's Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, the official MENA news agency said.

"During the talks, the two leaders discussed ways to support thePalestinians and stressed the importance of unity of the Palestinian people at this critical stage," Egyptian Information Minister Safwat El-Sharif was quoted as saying after the talks.

They also agreed that there is a need for an Arab vision to address the international community with the aim of getting the Mideast peace process out of the current stalemate, Sharif said.

He added that Mubarak and Qabus reviewed the outcome of contactswith the United States, Russia, the European Union, China and a number of Islamic countries on the Mideast situation.

They also discussed the outcome of a mini-summit held at Sharm El-Sheikh on May 11 between Mubarak, Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah Ibn Abdul-Aziz and Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad to coordinate their stances on the current Mideast situation.

Following their summit, the three leaders expressed common desire for peace with Israel and rejection of all forms of violence.

There has been ray of hope for reactivating the stalled Mideast peace process following a period of relative calm in the occupied Palestinian lands.
