Hamas Rejects PNA Denouncement of Attacks

The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) leaders rejected Monday the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) denouncement of suicide bombing attacks against Israel.

The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) leaders rejected Monday the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) denouncement of suicide bombing attacks against Israel.

Hamas spokesman in Gaza Abdel Aziz Ranteesi said he felt so sorry for the use of certain expressions and terminologies, referring to the word "terrorism" in a PNA statement following the suicide bombing attack in the northern Israeli city of Netanya, which killed three Israelis and wounded more than 50 others.

In the statement issued immediately after the attack on Sunday, the PNA called upon all Palestinian militant groups as well as all the political, social and cultural bodies to stop and condemn "the terrorist attacks that target Israeli civilians."

"We are under occupation, and every operation Hamas carries out aims to hit the occupation and sweep Israelis out of our Palestinian lands," Ranteesi said.

Following Sunday's suicide bombing, an anonymous man, identifying himself as a member of Hamas armed wing, told the pro-Hezbollah Al Manar television station on telephone that Hamas is responsible for the attack.

Another anonymous man, recognizing himself as a member of the Popular Front to Liberate Palestinian, also telephoned the Abu Dhabi Satellite Television office in the West Bank, saying his group is also responsible for the attack.

Hamas and Islamic Jihad (Holy War) are two Islamic movements that opposed the Oslo peace accords signed with Israel in 1994. Their armed wings carried out dozens of attacks that killed hundreds of people in Israel.

"Israel is killing our children and women. Therefore any action that punishes this occupation is welcomed, and the best action to fight this occupation is the suicide bombing attacks," said Ranteesi.

"The Palestinians had practiced the peace process with Israel for 10 years, and it was useless. Israel continues killing our people, destructing our houses, and building more and more Jewish settlements," said Ranteesi.

He said that the only option for the Palestinians is to continuetheir attacks against Israel, including the suicide bombing attacks.

However, Hamas spiritual leader and founder Ahmed Yassin said that Hamas would stop suicide bombing attacks against Israel and keep armed attacks in the Palestinian territories, if Israel ends its offensive against the Palestinians.

Asked what would be Hamas' preparation if the Israeli army wouldcarry out a widespread operation in the Gaza Strip, Ranteesi said that "such rumors are only serving Israel to frighten and terrorizethe Palestinian people."
