Coach: Chinese Doubles Need Learn How to Control Game

After China were sunk by Malaysia 3-1 in a four-hour semi-final tie at the Thomas Cup, an expert said here on Friday that the Chinese men's doubles players need to learn how to control their games.

After China were sunk by Malaysia 3-1 in a four-hour semi-final tie at the Thomas Cup, an expert said here on Friday that the Chinese men's doubles players need to learn how to control their games.

The Chinese doubles boast speed, power and fighting spirit. The only thing they need is the knack of how to control the pace of the game," said Malaysia doubles head coach Park Joo Bong.

His remarks came when throughout all the four matches China played at the Thomas Cup World Team Badminton Championships, Chinese doubles claimed only one big victory in the battle against South Korea in their group competition.

China restructured their doubles line-ups just before the tie against South Korea, a change which brought them to a crucial victory 4-1 and moved into the semi-finals.

In the group tie against Denmark, China lost both doubles to the Danes. The only complete doubles triumph China achieved were in their first group match against Sweden who placed bottom in Group A.

"It seems that sometimes they don't have any strategy in mind even when they are taking the lead," Park said.

Park, who is the coach of current world number one doubles Chan Choog Ming/Chew Choon Eng, was originally South Korea's former world champion in doubles.

He had a glorious career with five mixed doubles and doubles titles at the world championships and a coveted doubles gold medal at the Barcelona Olympic Games in 1992.
