NPC Chairman Calls for Closer Ties with Croatian Parliament

The National People's Congress (NPC)of China is ready to expand its already sound cooperation with theCroatian Parliament, Chairman of the NPC Standing Committee Li Peng said Friday.

The National People's Congress (NPC)of China is ready to expand its already sound cooperation with theCroatian Parliament, Chairman of the NPC Standing Committee Li Peng said Friday.

During his meeting with visiting Croatian President Stjepan Mesic, Li said the Sino-Croatian Joint Statement on Deepening the Sino-Croatian Relationship through Mutually Beneficial Cooperation,which Chinese President Jiang Zemin and Mesic signed on Thursday set guidelines for further growth of bilateral relations in the century.

He said the talks between Jiang and Mesic were a success. He expressed the belief that Mesic's visit to China will strongly push forward the overall development of bilateral relations.

Li also said he is looking forward to Speaker of the Croatian Parliament Zlatko Tomcic's impending visit to China.

Mesic said he was impressed by the growth of bilateral relations over the past decade. He said the exchanges between the parliaments of the two countries have enriched their bilateral cooperation and have enabled the people of both countries to learnfrom each other.

Mesic also spoke at the Foreign Affairs College in Beijing Friday morning.
