Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan Thursday urges Japan to face reality and handle the consulate intrusion incident in a responsible way to avoid hindering the growth of Sino-Japanese relations. He denied the related overseas report about a "consensus" reached between China and Japan on the settlement of Korean intruders into the Japanese Consulate-General in Shenyang on May 8.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan Thursday urges Japan to face reality and handle a recent consulate intrusion incident in a responsible way so as to avoid hindering the growth of Sino-Japanese relations.
Consulate Intrusion Incident

He told a regular press conference Thursday that Japan's unreasonable accusations and demands harm China's international image, and the Japanese side should give a decent explanation on the issue.

He denied the related overseas report about a "consensus" reached between China and Japan on the settlement of Korean intruders into the Japanese Consulate-General in Northeast China's Shenyang on May 8.

China holds that facts should be checked first, and the Chinese side has submitted a very comprehensive report to the Japanese side, Kong said, urging the Japanese side to respect the investigation outcome that it had repeatedly checked and conforms to the truth and stop hurling groundless accusations against China.

Clear objective facts
China is verifying the identity of the five intruders, and will decide what to do with them according to law, he said, adding the issue is a matter within China's sovereignty, and that the Chinese side will make proper arrangements in accordance with international and domestic laws and proceeding from the angle of humanism.

The Chinese police could neither enter the consulate's visa hall nor look for and find out intruders among visa appliers without permission and help of Japanese consulate staff, he noted.

The intruders passed the gate of consulate so quickly that the police could not remember their faces, said the spokesman.

Without the coordinated effort of the personnel from the Japanese side, the Chinese police could not find out the intruders from the crowds of visa appliers, the spokesman said, adding that the intruders could not be removed out of the consulate without the help of consulate staff.

The facts are broadly clear, and the Japanese side should face the reality and handle the matter sober-mindedly and prudently to prevent this matter from hindering the growth of Sino-Japanese relations, Kong said.
