Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Kong Quan said Thursday that Taiwan leaders' so-called sincerity is not believable at all.
Kong said Taiwan leaders have recently posed to improve relations across the straits by claiming their sincerity for negotiations on one hand, while on the other support the so-called "independent state" schemed by those advocating Taiwan's independence.
"Their actions are not improving the relations across the straits, but are creating tensions," he told a regular press conference.
Kong reaffirmed that there is only one China, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of Chinese territory. To solve the Taiwan question and achieve reunification is the inevitable trend of history, which cannot be stopped by any separating forces.
The Chinese government has adhered to "peaceful reunification" and "one country, two systems" and the eight-point proposal set forth by President Jiang Zemin on the Taiwan issue, he noted, but China cannot promise to abandon the use of force, as there are still some people attempting to split China and go in for Taiwan independence.
