Forest Parks to Bring 60 Billion Yuan of Revenue by 2005

China's forest parks are expected to increase to 1450 to receive yearly 150 million visitors in the coming three years. While providing a resting place for people these parks will also yield a yearly tourism worth of 60 billion yuan, official with the State Forestry Administration announced on May 15.

As known, building forest parks and natural reserves, as well as developing forest tourism has become a central task of China's forestry work.

Zhu Lieke, deputy director of the Forestry Administration said China is one of the countries of having varied ecologic systems. Since China began to build forest parks in the 1980s, the country has so far built more than 1200 forest parks, 909 forest and wild animal reserve areas, among which Zhangjiajie, Jiuzhaigou, Hanglong, Taishan Mountain and Wuyishan Mountain are listed as world heritage.

The forest tourism is becoming a new economic growth point having most vitality and greatest potential, Zhu pointed out.

The first Forest Scene and Resource Fair, or the Tianmushan Mountain Forest Tourism Festival, is scheduled to be held in Lin'an, Zhejiang Province June 8-15.
