Sudanese President Omar el-Bashir on Wednesday expressed his sincere hope for peace and stability in his war-torn country.

"The Sudanese government is ready to respond to all the effort made by Arab countries and the international community to achieve the objective," Bashir said after talks with his Egyptian counterpart Hosni Mubarak.

"It is the supreme interests of the Sudanese people to reach security and stability," he said, adding that the Sudanese government has reached out the hand of peace to other parties in the country.

He called on all parties concerned to comply with the supreme interests of the people and work together to realize reconciliation in Sudan.

He said that he discussed with Mubarak bilateral ties, Sudan's peace process, the latest situation in the occupied Palestinian lands and other issues of mutual interest.

"Sudan and Egypt have had strong relations, and leaders of the two countries will continue their consultation on all issues," he said.

The Sudanese leader, who arrived here earlier in the day, has left here after a brief visit to Egypt.

Last year, Egypt and Libya put forth a new reconciliation plan for Sudan, calling for resuming the Sudanese peace process, forming a transitional cabinet of all political forces, specifying the date and arrangements of new general elections, and immediatly ceasing all forms of hostilities.

The Sudanese Islamic government forces have been fighting with the southern rebel Sudan People's Liberation Army, which has been struggling for greater autonomy for the predominantly Christian and animist south since 1983.

Bashir paid his last visit to Egypt in May, 2001.
