Iranian government spokesman Abdollah Ramezanzadeh denied on Wednesday any secret talks with the United States, the official IRNA news agency reported.
Ramezanzadeh said the government has not entrusted anyone to hold talks with the United States, adding that the government has no idea of whether any negotiations with the United States have at all taken place.
He said the government has assigned the Information Ministry to investigate the case of secret talks with the United States and clarify the sensitive issue.
The United States and Iran have had no relations after Iranian students stormed the American Embassy in Tehran in 1979 and took its staff hostage for 444 days.
Earlier, Iranian Majlis (parliament) Speaker Mahdi Karrubi said that it's up to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to decide whether Iran should develop ties with the U.S., a long-time sworn enemy of the Islamic republic.
Khamenei has long ruled out possibility of resuming Tehran- Washington ties.
