Tunisia coach Ammar Souayah on Tuesday named a list of 26 players from which the Tunetnisian World Cup roster will be drawn later this month.

Out of the 26 players, who head to Japan on May 16, Souayah will pick 23 for his final roster. He has until May 21 to officially announce the squad.

Three players were dropped from the 29-man group that returned Tuesday from a week's training in France. They were defender Mouine Chaabane, midfielder Ahmed Hammi and forward ImeBen Younes.

The biggest name missing from Tuesday's list was veteran goalkeeper and former captain Chokri El Ouaer, who earlier this month retired from international soccer because of a back problem.

The withdrawal was a huge blow to the Tunisian team. It's expected that Bastia's Ali Boumnijel will replace him as first-choice goalie at the World Cup, where Tunisia meet Japan, Russia and Belgium in Group H in the first round.

The 26-man list:

Goalkeepers: Ali Boumnijel, Ahmed Jaouachi, Hassene Bejaoui.

Defenders: Khaled Badra, Radhi Jaidi, Tarek Thabet, Jose Clayton, Mohamed Mkacher, Emir Mkademi, Hamdi Marzouki, Hatem Trabelsi, Raouf Bouzayane.

Midfielders: Kais Ghodhbane, Riadh Bouazizi, Lassaad Ouertani, Mourad Melki, Hassene Gabsi, Adel Sellimi, Zoubeir Beya, Slim Ben Achour, Oussama Sellami, Imed Mhedhebi.

Forwards: Mohamed Selliti, Riadh Jelassi, Ziad Jaziri, Ali Zitouni.
