Megawati to Attend East Timor's Independence Celebration

Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Tuesday announced that President Megawati Soekarnoputri will attend East Timor's independence day celebration on May 19-20.

Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Tuesday announced that President Megawati Soekarnoputri will attend East Timor's independence day celebration on May 19-20.

"The president has decided to attend the declaration of independence in Dili," Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman Marty Nartalegawa told reporters here.

Megawati it to go at the invitation from the United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan and East Timor's president-elect Xanana Gusmao, the spokesman added.
