Japanese Cabinet OK's Royal Couple's Visit to ROK

Japanese Cabinet on Tuesday approved a planned six-day visit to South Korea by Prince and Princess Takamado, who will attend the opening ceremony of the soccer World Cup finals and other functions.

Japanese Cabinet on Tuesday approved a planned six-day visit to South Korea by Prince and Princess Takamado, who will attend the opening ceremony of the soccer World Cup finals and other functions.

It will be the first official visit to South Korea by members of the Imperial family since the end of World War II. The couple's itinerary includes a meeting with South Korean President Kim Dae Jung and his wife.

Prince Takamado serves as honorary president of the Japan Football Association. He and the princess will watch three World Cup matches in South Korea.

In the meeting with Kim and his wife, the royal couple will discuss the friendship between the two countries and other issues. The couple also will visit a facility for disabled people, and a cemetery for Korean War dead, where they will lay wreaths.
