Russia Coach Romantsev Names 27-man Soccer Team

Russia coach Oleg Romantsev has recalled veteran goalkeeper Stanislav Cherchesov to a 27-man squad for his team's final run-out before the World Cup finals.

Russia coach Oleg Romantsev has recalled veteran goalkeeper Stanislav Cherchesov to a 27-man squad for his team's final run-out before the World Cup finals.

Russia host Belarus, while Ukraine take on Yugoslavia on May 17 in a four-team international tournament at Moscow's Dynamo Stadium, with the two winners meeting for a 60,000 U.S. dollars first prize two days later.

A spokesman for the Russian team said that Romantsev will announce his 23-man World Cup team on May 21.

The Russians are scheduled to depart for Japan on May 25.

The team is as follows:

Goalkeepers: Ruslan Nigmatullin (Verona), Alexander Filimonov ( Uralan Elista), Stanislav Cherchesov (Tirol Innsbruck)

Defenders: Yuri Nikiforov (PSV Eindhoven), Viktor Onopko ( Oviedo), Igor Chugainov (Uralan Elista), Yuri Kovtun (Spartak Moscow), Vyacheslav Dayev and Andrei Solomatin (both CSKA Moscow), Dmitry Sennikov (Lokomotiv Moscow), Omari Tetradze (Alania Vladikavkaz)
