Chinese salvage workers started searching on Sunday night for the two "black boxes", or flight-data recorders, that could reveal why a China Northern Airlines passenger jet crashed last Tuesday with 112 people aboard.

According to experts, the two rectangle boxes are actually orange-red in color, each weighing between 20-30 kg.

The airline's MD-82 passenger plane plunged into Dalian Bay at 9:40 p.m. on May 7 shortly after the pilot reported a fire in the cabin.

The jet lost contact with the ground minutes after the pilot reported the fire. The cause of the accident is being investigated.

Sources from China Northern Airlines said that there were no survivors among the 103 passengers and 9 crew aboard the ill-fatedplane.
