Egypt, S. Arabia Agree on Steps to Activate Arab Peace Plan: Maher
Egypt and Saudi Arabia on Sunday agreed on steps to activate an Arab peace plan which calls for the normalization of the Arab-Israeli ties in exchange for Israel's withdrawal from all its occupied Arab lands since the 1967 Middle East war.
Egypt and Saudi Arabia on Sunday agreed on steps to activate an Arab peace plan which calls for the normalization of the Arab-Israeli ties in exchange for Israel's withdrawal from all its occupied Arab lands since the 1967 Middle East war.
"President Hosni Mubarak and Crown Prince Abdullah Ibn Abdul- Aziz shared views on steps to put into effect the Arab peace plan adopted at the Beirut Arab summit in late March," Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher said after the Mubarak-Abdullah talks at Egypt's Red Sea resort of Sharm El Sheikh.
"There will be Arab moves in the coming few days to prevent Israel from storming the Gaza Strip, force Israeli forces to pull out of the occupied Palestinian lands and back efforts to reach a peace settlement based on the Arab peace plan and the international legitimacy," Maher was quoted by the official MENA news agency as saying.
During their talks, Mubarak and Abdullah coordinated Arab stances on the current international efforts to calm down the tense Mideast situation due to Israel's escalation in the Palestinian lands.
The two leaders held the first round of talks Saturday evening, which was followed by a three-way summit with Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad on the stalled peace process, a proposed international peace conference and the crown prince's recent visit to the United States.
Following the summit, the three leaders expressed common desire for peace with Israel and rejection of all forms of violence in a joint statement.
While the Arab mini-summit was held at Sharm El Sheikh, Israel decided to put on hold the much-anticipated incursion into the Gaza Strip bordering Egypt.
Israel had vowed to avenge Tuesday's deadly suicide bombing attack in Israel, which left at least 15 Israelis dead and dozens of others injured.
