The football coach who discovered China's young star goalkeeper An Qi, set to travel to the upcoming World Cup with the national team, was among 112 people killed when a plane crashed into the sea, local media said Thursday.

Yang Kunfeng, a goalkeeping coach based in the northeastern city of Dalian, was on the list of passengers of China Northern Airlines flight CJ 6136 which crashed late Tuesday, the sina.com website reported.

"It was he who changed An Qi's life," the website said. "If it hadn't been for him, An Qi, who was practising high jump in the fourth grade, would never have made it to the national team."

Although only 20, An is a regular member of the national squad and deputised ably for Jiang Jin during the World Cup qualification campaign when the regular first choice 'keeper injured his wrist.
