Big Guns to Shine at 2002 Thomas & Uber Cup World Badminton
World top teams, including Indonesia, China, Malaysia, Denmark and South Korea, will compete the 2002 Thomas Cup & Uber Cup World Team Badminton Championships to be kicked off later on Thursday in Guangzhou.

Reigning champion of the Thomas Cup Indonesia will face strong challenges from host China, South Korea, Malaysia, Denmark as wellas Germany, Sweden and Thailand while the Uber Cup will see teams as the title holder China, Indonesia, Germany, Japan, Denmark, South Korea, the Netherlands and Hong Kong, China.
A total of 147 shuttlers will show off at the biyearly sport's showpiece events, including most of the top 16 players of each individual event by the latest world rankings released by the International Badminton Federation (IBF).
Danish former world number one Peter Gade is the only missing star of the Thomas Cup for an operation on his persistent knee cartilage problem.
Spearheaded by world number one Xia Xuanze, in-form youngsters Bao Chunlai and Lin Dan, All England champion Chen Hong and veteran Luo Yigang along with five double players, China faces Sweden in the Thomas Cup heats tonight while South Korea plays Denmark.
In the Uber Cup heats at the Tianhe Stadium, Denmark battles long-time rival the Netherlands and Hong Kong, China meets Indonesia.
The 11-day championships will be held in "the best of five games" by 7-point system.
