Now there is little possibility to finding any survivors of Tuesday's crashed plane, rescue workers are concentrating on finding the aircraft's black box as soon as possible, a Chinese official in charge of the rescue work said at a press conference Thursday.
The search team in Dalian received radio signals from the blackbox at 11:00 am Thursday and is trying to determine the location, said Shan Chunchang, deputy director of the State Administration of Production Safety.
More than 40 ships, equipped with up-to-date sonar equipment and GPS positioning systems, are trying to find the black box and the main plane debris.
Over 50 naval divers from the Chinese People's Liberation Army's naval force and the Yantai Salvage Bureau are also helping to locate the data recorder.
This is the first Chinese rescuers searching for victims of an air crash at sea. As the rescue operations are well organized and progress has been made quickly, there is no question that the black box will be found as soon as possible, the official said.
The MD-82 aircraft, belonging to the China Northern Airlines, was flying from Beijing to Dalian carrying 103 passengers and ninecrew when it plunged into the sea Tuesday night after a fire was reported in the cabin.
