China, Kiribati to Promote Relations
Chinese State Councilor Wu Yi met with Kiribati's President Teburoro Tito Wednesday, andthe two sides reached consensus on further promoting friendship and cooperation between their two nations.

Wu, who is attending the U.N. General Assembly Special Session on Children, expressed her thanks to Tito for his efforts to boostfriendship and cooperation between China and Kiribati.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1980, China and Kiribati have made steady progress in bilateral relations, Wu said.
China and Kiribati are both developing countries in the Asian-Pacific region, sharing common interests in maintaining peace and promoting development in the region, she said.
Wu also appreciated Kiribati's adherence to the one-China policy, expressing her hope that the two countries will further their cooperation in international and regional affairs.
Tito said Kiribati attaches great importance to developing goodrelations with China, and his country supports China's stance on the Taiwan issue.
Kiribati and China have maintained very close cooperation in such fields as economy and trade, Tito said, adding that Kiribati is ready to make further efforts to strengthen this kind of cooperation.
