Sharon Has No Right to Decide on Arafat's Fate: Mubarak
Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak stressed on Wednesday that Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon does not have the right to decide on the fate of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.
Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak stressed on Wednesday that Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon does not have the right to decide on the fate of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.
"Sharon can say whatever he wants to say. But I say that if you are serious about peace, you must deal with the elected authority ... It is up to the people to determine the fate of their leaders," Mubarak was quoted as saying by the official MENA news agency.
Sharon, who cut short his U.S. trip and headed for home earlier in the day following an overnight Palestinian suicide bombing attack near Tel Aviv, reportedly presented the U.S. administration with his peace plan which envisaged the expulsion of Arafat from the Mideast peace process.
Sharon also vowed to avenge the attack, which killed at least 15 civilians and injured some 40 others.
